County Prominence Point First Ascent Rules

To be eligible for a first ascent of a county prominence point (coPP), a climber must have climbed the peak with the intention of reaching the summit. Examples of people whose climbs are eligible for the FAL include, but are not limited to:

On the other hand, some people may have reached a summit incidentally, as part of some other activity not related to peakbagging, with no intention of reaching the summit. Examples of activities that are ineligible for first ascent status on that ground include, but are not limited to:

While the intention of reaching the summit is required for coPP FAL eligibility, the pursuit of coPPs is not necessary. Many peakbaggers who do not pursue coPPs still climb coPPs because they belong to some other list that the peakbagger is interested in, e.g. county high points or peaks that are noted for their prominence. Peakbaggers who summit a coPP for this reason are still eligible for the coPP FAL, although they'd be less likely to report it.
